My mom and I started making surgical caps in the year 2014. I came home from surgery one day, working as a Surgical Technologist and didn’t like the hat I was wearing while operating! It felt uncomfortable, my hair would stick out and my head felt hot. I asked my mom if we could customize one for me to fit all of my hair and that felt snug. 

My mom and I, immediately went to work like two ants on a farm. We experimented with our customized patterns and created a comforting shield to cover my head for surgery.

 If you could imagine a house that turned into an craft shop fabric store that had colors and thread EVERYWHERE, then you have the right vision. Meanwhile, my coworkers were asking me where I got these cute hats from and if my mom and I would make one for them. This is where everything began, and the rest is history! As time went on, the hats started to have new, deeper meanings as to why we were wearing and making them.

We all can exert under high stress and can be over worked so quickly. My mom and I know that positivity and color is something that can change people’s perspective on their day to day life. Which is one of the reasons why we feel so confident in how AMAZING you feel in every individual hat we crafted for you. We know the events that people experience at work aren't talked about enough. A lot of healthcare workers experience trauma, abuse, massive loss and aggressive behavior from patients or even coworkers. Our team is on a mission!

Let us point out the elephant in the room... WE ARE ALL WEARING THE SAME THING ALL DAY, EVERY DAY! 

Due to infection control, we aren’t allowed to accessorize our outfits in surgery. Obviously, you wouldn’t want a long earring that an employee was wearing, in your abdomen if you were the patient! Or have your Operating Room Nurse wear the same clothes he/she went camping with that has dirt all over it. This makes sense! But because of this, we end up wearing the same scrubs, masks, hats, you name it, provided by the hospital.

Despite how comfy the scrubs are, we typically all end up looking the same, covering our hair and face up, which believe it or not, has a psychological effect on you!

Knowing that you FEEL what you wear, you love style and you work in the healthcare industry where you can’t decorate your own outfit, our hats will open that door for you as it did for me.

Overall, my mom and I naturally fell in love with creating a happy and safe environment in the Operating Room where surgery takes place. Today, we are proud to say our family owned business has grown to advance PPE services during the outbreak of COVID-19. Now that CDC requires our hats to be used in a variety of departments, we showed up for whoever was in need. We will continue to provide such service and will endlessly satisfy our family and friends for the public and other revolutionary, medical style!

In the year 1968, I started hand stitching clothes for dolls and easily fell in love with sewing. I soon borrowed my mom’s sewing machine and took a sewing class in 8^th grade where I made my first shirt. I quickly became an expert in high school and all the way up to college making bridesmaid dresses, graduation dresses and jumper skirts. Later, I mastered techniques from German dresses, cushion covers and any household item that had fabric. I spent most of my time quilting but love designing clothes, accessorizing and making a house a home from scratch. Crafting style with beautiful fabric is my niche along with with gardening, baking and puzzling.

 

SARA MAMEROW

When I was at a very young age, my sister and I went to our moms craft shows! We started making our own crafts by sewing pillows, quilts, pin cushions, crafting items out of clay, beading and fashioning scrunchies. My dad, mom, brother, sister and I have always been very close and usually were found building some sort of invention or craft. I also have always been fascinated with surgery as to the incredible procedures you can do with the human body to alleviate pain. Using our resources and knowledge to come together and make surgical hats has been an incredible experience. I’ve truly enjoyed starting this family owned business with my mom and changing people’s perspective throughout their day. Outside of work, Im usually doing something active and fun! Along with OR World Surgical hats, I got inspired throughout this journey to start my own personal growth platform for people who want to live a loving and fulfilled life <3
